Marvel Comics superhero U.S. Agent will make his MCU debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. No details have been revealed on how the character will look, but it’s possible that his costume will draw inspiration from unused Avengers: Infinity War concept art for Captain America.

Avengers: Endgame ended with Steve Rogers passing the mantle of “Captain America” to Sam Wilson, whose story will continue in the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series will see Falcon and Bucky face off against a comic book accurate Baron Zemo, who previously appeared in Captain America: Civil War. It was confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo that actor Wyatt Russell would portray John Walker aka U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In Marvel Comics, U.S. Agent was an Avenger and a temporary replacement for Captain America. His aggressive methods often clashed with Steve Rogers’ ideals.

Concept art released in 2018 for Avengers: Infinity War showed off costumes that ultimately didn’t make it into the movie. One of these was an unused costume for Captain America. The concept art revealed a bearded Steve Rogers wearing a red-black-and-white suit that resembled U.S. Agent’s suit in the comic books. The costume was also worn by Steve when he was known by the name, “The Captain”. This look was eventually rejected in favor of a different outfit, one that embraced the “spirit” of Nomad, another of Cap’s old identities.

Though the black and red suit was never in Avengers: Infinity War or Endgame, there’s still a chance for the costume to be properly used in the MCU. In the comics, this costume was originally designed for Cap, but eventually went to John Walker. Ever since, it’s been synonymous with the “U.S. Agent” identity, so it makes perfect sense for it – or some version of it – to be worn by Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Of course, John Walker being U.S. Agent in the series is no sure thing and hasn’t been officially confirmed. It’s entirely possible that Walker ’s arc will be akin to his comic book counterpart’s. If so, Walker could become the new Captain America, especially since the government may be opposed to Falcon taking up the shield. However, in the case of John Walker, what name he uses won’t necessarily affect what costume he wears. The black and red outfit bears enough resemblance to the Captain America costume that it will fit the MCU John Walker perfectly, whether he’s U.S. Agent, or Steve Rogers’ government-appointed replacement.
