Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson don’t have anything but good things to say about the cat who played Goose in Captain Marvel in a promo video for the film. Playing Carol Danvers and Nick Fury, respectively, in the upcoming Marvel Studios project, fans have already been digging their chemistry from the handful of footage released so far. However, the two aren’t the only ones to look forward to in the movie with Carol’s pet cat, Goose supposedly also a highlight.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will be a prequel piece set in 1995 back when a young (still two-eyed) Fury and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) were still S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives. Incorporating the Kree-Skrull in its narrative, the film will also introduce a slew of new characters from both alien races like members of Starforce, Yon Rogg (Jude Law), and Talos - Ben Mendelsohn’s Skrull leader. The first wave of social media reactions were released yesterday and they’re generally positive. But as the film’s theatrical release nears, Marvel Studios is doubling down in marketing the film with the roll out of several promo spots including this latest one.

The official YouTube account for Marvel Entertainment celebrated Love Your Pet Day with a Goose the Cat-centric promo spot for Captain Marvel featuring Larson and Jackson. The Marvel co-stars, who have previously worked before, sat down, seemingly showering each other compliments. But then it’s revealed that Larson was actually talking about the feline who played the part of her pet in the film. Jackson, who was supposedly unaware of this, just hilariously backed the actress’ comments about the cat. Watch the video below:

The bit is obviously supposed to be a gag, but based on early screening reactions for Captain Marvel, Goose may actually be the highlight of the movie. Of course, it’s a different story whether or not the cat was actually easy to film with, but in terms of narrative alone, it seems like it will going to be a major hit for fans. When social media reaction embargo lifted yesterday, the feline also got several shoutouts from the press who were lucky to be given the opportunity to see the movie early, although it appears that Mendelsohn may be sharing the top spot as the project’s scene-stealer.

Not much is known regarding Goose’s overall role in Captain Marvel, but it’s clear that it won’t be your usual pet. In the pages of the comics, its counterpart named Chewie was revealed to be the last of a ruthless alien species whose bodies contain interdimensional portals known as the Flerkens. It’s unknown if this will be the case on the big screen, nevertheless, it’s safe to assume that it’ll have a pivotal part in how things pan out in the film. The fact that the marketing of the movie is devoting time and effort to it is a clear indication of this.
